Jaeda DeWalt – Existing in extremes

Jaeda DeWalt is a self-taught taught artist that discovered her passion for photography, back in 1995, while writing her first book, “Haunting Hands” a collection of poems she’d written about surviving an abusive childhood. She decided it would feel more personal if she designed the cover for the book, herself. Shortly thereafter, she purchased a camera and turned her living room into a makeshift studio, doing a series of self-portraits and then another and another. Putting herself in front of the camera felt cathartic, liberating and healing. The photographic medium unleashed a new world inside of her, transforming her book into a survivor-orientated, photographic essay. The book started a new chapter in Jaeda’s life, as that of, photographic artist.
